The City of Agoura Hills
If you’re looking for a great neighborhood with the feel of a rural environment and the conveniences of suburbia, Agoura Hills may be just the right place for you. The school system is solid, crime is low, and there’s a lot of room to romp and play and explore. The Santa Monica Mountains’ oak-covered rolling foothills are your back yard, yet you’re just 10 minutes from the San Fernando Valley, 30 minutes from Dowtown, and the beautiful beaches of Ventura and The Channel Islands are a mere 30-40 minutes north. What’s more, Agoura Hills is pleased and proud of the town’s rural culture, intent on preserving the small-town feel.
Getting to and from Agoura Hills is quite simple. The town sits along Highway 101 at the western end of Los Angeles county. Its residents – more than 20,000 of them – enjoy quick access to the cultural, culinary and shopping opportunities of the big city, while maintaining a country lifestyle right here in Southern California!
The moderate climate is a big draw to southern California. Sometimes the ocean’s breezes can be felt sweeping across the rolling fields. If the wind’s not going that way, you can go to the ocean and enjoy the beaches instead. It’s only a few miles away!
There are two public high schools in the area, Oak Park and Agoura High School, both excellent schools. If you are looking for a private high school, your options abound with Oaks Christian a few miles north, and several others in the San Fernando Valley. Agoura High is part of the Las Virgenes School District.
Outdoor recreation is a favorite for residents of Agoura Hills. Biking and hiking in the nearby mountains is great fun! Even if you don’t have time to go back into the mountains, there are some 80 acres in 6 parts, from small neighborhood spots to the equestrian center. The town strives to have wholesome activities for everyone.

Originally named Agoura (after Pierre Agoure, an early settler in the area,) the U.S. Postal Service misspelled it as Agoura when it was assigned the 91301 zip code, and it has been that way ever since. The misnomer became official with the town’s incorporation in 1982.
