In many ways, Camarillo is the heart of Ventura County. Resting in a valley as it does, the nearby hills sporting rich fertile farmland makes for a quintessential California countryside view. The area is made up of quaint neighborhoods, each with its own charm. Camarillo has a small municipal airport which houses the Confederate Air Force, a collection of old WWII era airplanes. In addition the city is developing a large sportspark in addition to Freedom Park which has softball, soccer, BMX, and other facilities.
There are several new communities as well as many older mature neighborhoods. Riverpark is a mix of New Single Family Homes, Condos, and Apartments. This community offers something for everyone. Trees, parks, grass and agricultural greenery all add to the pacific feel of this growing Southern California town.
Climate
The climate is ideal all year long, owing to Camarillo being less than 15 miles from the Pacific Ocean. This keeps Camarillo fairly temperate throughout the year. The temperature change from the Conejo Valley can often be as much as 10 degrees fahrenheit, even though a few short miles separates the two areas.

One of the features both residents and visitors enjoy is the Camarillo Premium Outlet mall. This shopping venue provides discounts on designer goods and major name brands such as Klein, Versace, Nike and Sony. In 2002, the area gained yet another wonderful attraction: California State University’s Channel Islands campus. The campus is situated at the base of the mountains and recently graduated its first class.
Camarillo has a mix of small and large businesses. For commuters there is easy access to the 101 freeway as well as pacific coast highway. The peaceful, laid-back feeling of this quaint gathering of neighborhoods owes its beginnings to a Spanish heritage. The soil goes back to the Spanish Land Grant, and cultural aspects of Mexico can still be seen here as well as other places in Southern California. Like most of Ventura County, the town is actively preserving its own identity, resisting encroachment from the far more urban Los Angeles. When one is considering relocating within Southern California, Camarillo is definitely worth serious consideration.
